Nataraja " the lord of dance "

Nataraja "the lord of dance" is a depiction of the Hindu god shiva as the cosmic ecstatic dancer .his dance is called Tandava . Typically shows shiva dancing in one of the natya Shastra poses , holding fire in his left hand , the front hand in gajahast mudra ( elephant hand) the front right hand with a wrapped snake that is in abhaya mudra and the back hand holding a musical instrument , usually a damaru . He is surrounded by a ring of flames , standing on a lotus pedestal , lifting his left leg and balancing over a demon shown as a dwarf who symbolises ignorance .the dynamism of energetic dance is depicted with the whirling hair which spread out in thin strands as a fand behind his head . Snakes symbolise the Hindu dogma of reincarnation .his locks are decked with a Cresent moon , a skull and are interspersed with the scared river Ganges .


When the heavenly Ganges was needed on earth shiva as natraja agreed the break of violent Power of the scared ganga's fall by. Catching her in his tangled hair.
